Terms of sale
Last updated 13 October 2026
The short version
- Your free spec is no obligation. A contract only starts once you've paid in full and we've confirmed your order in writing.
- We only order parts once your payment has fully cleared. For larger orders we may ask for photo ID.
- Saving up? You can pay a deposit and the rest over time. Deposits are fully refundable until we order your parts.
- Each PC is built to your specification, so there's no 14-day change-of-mind return once parts are ordered.
- We photograph every PC and record every part's serial number before it leaves us.
- Your legal rights for faulty goods always apply. Damage that happens after delivery, including cosmetic damage, isn't a fault and isn't covered.
- Our extra 12-month workmanship guarantee covers our build quality. It doesn't cover cosmetic damage, accidents or changes made by anyone else.
1. About us and these terms
1.1 We are Speyside Custom PCs LTD, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC905666), with our registered office at 175 Kingsmills, Elgin, IV30 4BT. You can contact us at [email protected].
1.2 These terms apply to every order for a custom PC, parts, or services from us. Please read them before you pay. By paying for an order, you confirm you accept them.
1.3 "You" means the person placing the order. "Build" means the PC we assemble for you. "Components" means the individual parts in it. "Build package" means the assembly, setup and testing service you choose, and "add-ons" are the optional extra services listed on our website.
1.4 You must be 18 or over to place an order.
1.5 If you are buying as a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. Where any part of these terms conflicts with those rights, the law wins. Section 18 explains how these terms apply to business customers.
2. Specs and quotes
2.1 Our spec service is free and carries no obligation. A spec is our recommendation, based on what you tell us about your budget and use.
2.2 A quote lists each component, its UK retail price on the date of the quote, your build package, any add-ons, and delivery. Component prices change daily, so a quote is valid for 48 hours unless we say otherwise in writing.
2.3 If we make an obvious pricing mistake, we'll tell you and give you the choice of continuing at the correct price or cancelling for a full refund.
2.4 Performance estimates (for example, frame rates in a game) are honest estimates based on public benchmarks and our own testing. They are not guarantees, because results depend on game updates, drivers, settings and your monitor.
3. Placing an order
3.1 A contract between us only starts when we send you a written order confirmation after your payment has fully cleared. Until then, either of us can walk away, and anything you've paid is refunded in full.
3.2 Your order confirmation lists every component, its price, your build package, any add-ons, delivery, and the total. Please check it carefully and tell us straight away if anything is wrong.
3.3 We may decline any order before confirming it, for example if we can't verify your identity or payment, or if the parts aren't available. If we decline, we refund anything you've paid in full.
4. Payment, deposits and fraud prevention
4.1 We operate on a build-to-order basis. Full payment is required before we order any parts.
4.2 We accept UK bank transfer and the card payment methods shown on your invoice. We don't accept cash on delivery, cheques, cryptocurrency, or payment from anyone other than the person named on the order.
4.3 We only order parts once the money has arrived in our account and cleared. Screenshots, "pending" payments or remittance notes are not proof of payment.
4.4 Our bank details never change by email or message. Before paying, confirm the details on your invoice with us by phone or WhatsApp. We won't be responsible for money sent to an account that isn't ours because of a message we didn't send.
4.5 For orders over £1,500, or where something about an order doesn't add up, we may ask for photo ID and proof of address that match the name and address on the order. If you can't or won't provide them, we'll cancel the order and refund the payment to the account it came from.
4.6 Refunds are only ever paid back to the account or card the payment came from.
4.7 If you have a problem, please contact us before going to your bank or card provider. If a chargeback or payment dispute is raised, we will give the provider our records, including your order confirmation, messages, build photos, serial numbers, test results and proof of delivery. If a payment is reversed after you have received the goods, you must return them or pay for them, because ownership only passes to you once we have been paid in full (section 7.2).
Paying by deposit
4.8 If you'd like to save up for your PC, you can pay a deposit and then pay the rest in one or more payments, whenever suits you, using the reference on your invoice.
4.9 We don't order any parts until the full amount has cleared. Until then, your spec and prices aren't fixed. Before your final payment, we'll update your invoice to current prices and confirm the total with you, and you can change your spec at that point.
4.10 Your deposit is fully refundable at any time before we order your parts. Just ask, and we'll refund everything you've paid to the account it came from within 14 days.
4.11 If we haven't heard from you for 6 months after your last payment, we'll contact you. If you don't reply within 30 days, we'll refund what you've paid to the account it came from and close the order.
4.12 Section 3 still applies. The contract for your PC starts once you've paid in full and we've confirmed your order in writing.
5. Prices and parts
5.1 Components are charged at the UK retail price we pay, with no markup. Our income comes from the build package and add-ons.
5.2 Once your payment has cleared, your price is fixed. If a component's price goes up before we order it, we cover the difference. If it goes down, we refund you the difference.
5.3 If a component becomes unavailable, we'll offer you an equivalent or better alternative at its actual price, or a refund for that component. We won't substitute anything without your agreement.
5.4 You'll receive copies of the retailer receipts for your components.
6. Building and testing
6.1 We aim to complete builds within 5 to 10 working days of your payment clearing. Delays in parts arriving can affect this, and we'll keep you updated. If your build hasn't been dispatched within 30 days of payment, you may cancel for a full refund.
6.2 Before dispatch, we:
- record the serial number of every major component (processor, motherboard, memory, graphics card, drives, power supply)
- photograph the finished PC from every side, inside and out
- run the stability tests included in your build package, and keep the results
- photograph the PC packed in its box before it is sealed
6.3 These records are used to resolve any question about the condition or contents of your PC when it left us. Copies are available to you on request.
7. Delivery and collection
7.1 We deliver by insured, tracked courier to the address on your order. For security, we can only deliver to the billing address of the payer, unless we've agreed otherwise in writing after verifying your identity. We can't redirect a parcel once it has been sent.
7.2 A signature is required on delivery. The PC is your responsibility from the moment it's delivered to you or to someone you've named to receive it. Ownership passes to you once we have received payment in full and that payment hasn't been reversed.
7.3 Please check the box when it arrives. If the packaging is visibly damaged, note it with the courier if you can, and photograph it before opening.
7.4 Please unpack the PC, inspect it and tell us about any damage or missing items within 48 hours of delivery, with photos. Reporting quickly lets us claim from the courier and fix things fastest. It doesn't affect your legal rights.
7.5 Before turning the PC on, remove the transit packing inside the case (if any) as described in the note on top of the PC.
7.6 If you're collecting from Elgin, please bring photo ID matching the name on the order. Inspect the PC with us before you leave. Collected orders aren't distance sales, so the 14-day cancellation rules don't apply to them at all.
7.7 If a delivery fails because nobody was available, or the address was wrong, we may charge the cost of redelivery.
8. Cancelling an order
8.1 Before we order parts: you can cancel for a full refund at any time.
8.2 After we order parts: your PC is made to your own specification. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, the 14-day right to cancel doesn't apply to goods made to the consumer's specification, so you can't cancel or return it simply because you've changed your mind.
8.3 If you still want to cancel after parts are ordered, we'll try to help. We'll return unopened parts to the retailer where we can, and refund what we recover, minus any restocking fees, return postage and the cost of work already done. This is at our discretion and is not a legal right.
8.4 Add-on services that have been fully performed can't be cancelled or refunded.
8.5 Nothing in this section affects your rights if your PC is faulty or not as described (sections 9 and 10).
9. Faulty goods: your legal rights
9.1 Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, your PC must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it isn't, you're entitled to a remedy:
- Within 30 days of delivery, you can reject it and get a refund.
- Within 6 months, if a repair or replacement fails, you're entitled to a refund. In most cases it's assumed the fault was there at delivery unless we can show otherwise.
- After 6 months, you may still be entitled to a repair, replacement or partial refund, but you may need to show the fault was present when the PC was delivered.
9.2 For a fault in one component, the usual remedy is to repair or replace that component, which is quickest and least disruptive for you. Your legal rights still apply in full.
9.3 These rights cover faults that were present when the PC was delivered. They don't cover damage or wear that happens after delivery (see section 11).
9.4 This is a summary. For full details of your rights, contact Citizens Advice Scotland (or Citizens Advice in England and Wales).
10. How to report a fault
10.1 Contact us first by email or WhatsApp with a description of the problem, photos or video, and your order number. Many problems can be solved remotely within a few minutes.
10.2 If the PC needs to come back to us, we'll arrange collection or tell you how to send it. Please use the original packaging (including any internal foam) if you still have it. If you don't, we can send suitable packaging.
10.3 When the PC arrives, we check component serial numbers against our records and compare its condition against our dispatch photos.
10.4 If we confirm a fault covered by your legal rights or our guarantee, the repair, parts and both-way postage are free.
10.5 If we find no fault, or find that the problem was caused by something listed in section 11, we'll tell you why and show you the evidence. We may then charge a diagnostic fee of £45 plus return postage, and we'll give you a quote before doing any repair work.
10.6 If any returned component's serial number doesn't match our records, it isn't the part we supplied. We'll return the PC to you as it is, at your cost, and may report the matter to the police.
11. What isn't a fault
The following aren't faults in the goods we supplied. They aren't covered by your legal rights or our guarantee, and we won't provide free repairs, replacements or refunds for them:
- Cosmetic damage that happened after delivery, such as scratches, scuffs, dents, cracked glass or marks to the case, panels, cables or components. Any cosmetic damage present on delivery must be shown by photos or the courier's damage note. We'll compare it against our dispatch photos. Please report it as described in section 7.4.
- Accidental damage, drops, knocks, liquid damage, fire, power surges or lightning.
- Normal wear and tear, including dust build-up, fan noise from dust, and fading of RGB lighting over time.
- Damage caused by moving the PC without suitable packing, especially with a heavy graphics card or air cooler fitted.
- Overclocking, voltage changes, BIOS or firmware updates, or other tuning done by you or anyone other than us beyond the settings we supplied.
- Parts removed, added, replaced or modified by you or anyone else, and any damage caused while doing so.
- Software problems, viruses, malware, operating system changes, driver problems you've installed, game or app bugs, or lost passwords.
- Smoke, pet hair, damp, extreme heat or similar conditions where the PC is used or stored.
- Using the PC in a way it wasn't specified for, including 24/7 cryptocurrency mining or commercial rendering unless we built it for that purpose.
- Performance that matches the spec you approved, even if you expected more. Please ask us before ordering if you're unsure.
12. Our workmanship guarantee
12.1 On top of your legal rights, we give a 12-month workmanship guarantee from the date of delivery (or longer if you bought the extended guarantee add-on). It covers faults caused by our assembly, such as a loose connection, an incorrectly fitted part or a cable fault from our cable routing.
12.2 Under this guarantee, we'll diagnose and fix workmanship faults for free, including postage both ways.
12.3 This guarantee does not cover anything listed in section 11, including any cosmetic damage of any kind. It ends if components are removed, replaced or modified by anyone other than us, but you can still open the case to clean it or check it.
12.4 This guarantee is extra to your legal rights. It doesn't replace or reduce them.
13. Manufacturer warranties
13.1 Every component keeps its manufacturer's warranty, often between 2 and 10 years. You'll receive the receipts you need to claim.
13.2 During the first 12 months, we'll handle warranty claims with manufacturers on your behalf. After that, we'll gladly guide you through doing it yourself.
13.3 Manufacturer warranties are subject to each manufacturer's own terms, and are separate from your legal rights against us.
14. Software and your data
14.1 We install a clean copy of Windows, activated with a licence you supply or one you buy through us. We never install unlicensed software.
14.2 You are responsible for backing up your data. Before sending a PC to us for any reason, back up anything you need. We may need to reset or replace drives, and we can't be responsible for data lost during repair.
14.3 If we transfer data from your old PC as an add-on, we copy it as it is. We aren't responsible for files that were already damaged, or for software licences that don't transfer.
15. Our liability
15.1 We don't exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for your legal rights as a consumer.
15.2 We're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable when the contract was made, or that aren't caused by our breach of these terms.
15.3 We supply PCs for domestic and private use. If you use one for business, we aren't liable to you for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.
16. Misuse, fraud and abuse
16.1 We may refuse service, cancel an unconfirmed order, or stop dealing with anyone who gives false information, attempts fraud, makes a false claim, or is abusive or threatening to us.
16.2 Where we suspect fraud, we may share relevant information with payment providers, couriers, fraud prevention services and the police, as set out in our privacy notice.
16.3 Attempting to return different, older or damaged parts in place of the parts we supplied, or making a false claim about delivery or damage, may be reported to Police Scotland or Action Fraud.
17. Photos of your build
17.1 We photograph and film builds for our records (section 6) and may share photos and videos of your PC on our website and social media.
17.2 We never include your name, address or other personal details. If you'd rather your build isn't shared, tell us at any time and we won't post it.
18. Business customers
18.1 If you buy as a business, the consumer rights described in sections 8 and 9 don't apply to you. We'll still repair or replace components that are faulty on delivery and reported within 30 days, and our workmanship guarantee and the manufacturer warranties still apply.
18.2 To the extent the law allows, our total liability to a business customer is limited to the price paid for the order.
19. Complaints and the law that applies
19.1 If you're unhappy, please contact us at [email protected]. We'll reply within 5 working days and aim to resolve things within 14 days.
19.2 These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and disputes can be brought in the Scottish courts. If you live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
19.3 If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
19.4 We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force when you paid applies to your order.
